Once upon a time during the 19th and 20th centuries, on the unpredictable and capricious river, brave Drina rafters transported timber from its origin in Montenegro near Šćepan polje to Šabac and even further to Belgrade and Smederevo. Fearless and skilled Drina rafters overcame the harsh nature of Zelenika during all seasons. By blocking the flow of the Drina for the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Zvornik, Bajina Bašta and Višegrad in the middle of the 20th century, the transport of timber along the river stopped and was thus stifled. a trade.
Leaning on the tradition of rafting in Podrinje, every second Saturday in July the Tourism Organization of the Municipality of Ljubovija organizes the Drina Regatta event. Ljubovija, which preserves the story of rafting from oblivion in a modern way.
